The Benalla case is a French judicial and administrative affair involving Alexandre Benalla, project manager, coordinator of various services during the official and private trips of the President of the French republic, Emmanuel MACRON.
The principal is accused of having usurped the function of police officer, arrested and raped a couple of people who had launched projectiles at the police during a demonstration in Paris. The Presidential mansion had been informed of his identity on May 2 and had sanctioned him with a layoff for fifteen days, with the demotion of his functions.
Alexandre Benalla is accused of still being in possession of diplomatic passports, which he should have returned several months earlier. These passports notably enabled him to meet the President of Chad, Idriss DEBY. The principal then indicates that he regularly spoke with Emmanuel MACRON after he left office, which the President of the Republic denies. Besides the trip to Chad, Alexandre Benalla also allegedly used these diplomatic passports during various missions on behalf of foreign delegations.
Alexandre Benalla is accused of having established business relationships with Russian oligarchs, notably the businessman Iskandar MAKHMUDOV, suspected of having links with organized crime, as early as June 2018, even though they were still stationed at the Presidential mansion. A protection contract was also signed between a company linked to the two men, France Close Protection and the Russian oligarch Farkhad Akhmedov in December 2018.
These cases highlight dysfunctions at the Élysée level, recognized by Emmanuel MACRON.
The Law Commissions of the Senate and the National Assembly chaired by Philippe BAS obtain the prerogatives of a parliamentary commission of inquiry and proceed, particularly that of the Senate, to a certain number of public hearings of senior police officers
" Negligence or protection, it is not completely resolved today," responded Philippe Bas. "Was there a form of protection which would have been granted to him and which would have enabled him to develop with the instruments of his former function at the Presidential mansion new activities? And were these activities related or not to the There are many improbabilities that remain to be resolved, many contradictions that remain to be explored and that is the job of the weeks to come for the law commission "
Political figures are also astonished at the prerogatives granted to Alexandre Benalla, without apparent justification according to them, in particular the latter with a badge of access to the National Assembly of very high level, which has been seen as a violation of the principle of separation of powers by certain parliamentarians
